Ridiculous service from the city and the landlord - the urine again

This morning at 4:40am urine started coming out of the light fixture in the entry way to my apartment. It is now 6:25am and still noone has returned the call and the liquid still keeps dripping out making a spat as it hits the layers of the plastic bags I have laid down. I will call the super again at 8:00am. I can't believe how many hours of my time they have wasted; what unhygienic conditions they have allowed to go on in this building.

Oh but the pictures I have in my cellphone right now.

I had not put the breakers back on or the light cover on from the last incident 11 days ago as I had hoped the management and super would respond to my notice and return to check the situation out. I had called 311 asking them what I could do about the super and property manager never coming to followup, never responding six days ago. There answer was the HPD again. No thank you. That's like being tortured endlessly and getting nothing for it.

Today I called the super at 4:45am. Its is job to be available for emergencies.
There was no answer just a recording.

I wrote the property manager by email. There is not point calling, you won't have a record for court. I am taking the buckos to court. This is the last straw.

I called 311.

You cannot call 311 on Skype. They complained about the reception of my AT&T phone. I'm like complain to AT&T.

311 took all the phone numbers about eight times and then when I had patiently given them all the info they asked to confirm the info again. They again asked for each piece of info numerous times.

The most hideous element of 311 is that they want to know if you have a child under the age of six. If you don't they aren't coming. They have never come.

This is their trick. They say that they will be there from 10pm - 2am in the next two days. They do not call and they do not come. Two weeks later you get an automated message. Two weeks later they follow that up with a letter claiming "you failed" not them.

They are ridiculous I do not expect anything but malarkey from the city.

The only one who has helped me in this apartment is the fireman.

I have been through an absolutely filthy apartment upon moving in. They had construction going on in the apartment between the time of viewing and move-in. They left the apartment door in. The bathroom was hideous and so were the floors. The cabinets and refrigerator and oven had never been cleaned. I took pictures of it.

When I told these property managers that they would need to pay me for cleaning. They said thank you. They do not pay anyone. They said all they have to do is have the previous tenant sweep clean. The issue wasn't the tenant before it was how they left the apartment afterwards. Weeks later they sent me a rider that had all the costs of cleaning the various items in the apartment. It took my pictures and matched them up. They owe me $500.

Within the first few days of move-in several tenants said do not buy new furniture or put anything on the floor there are bedbugs on your floor and throughout the building.

I had to pay $975 to move in because the landlords kept saying the apartment wasn't ready. I had a mover for $400 and I had to cancel them. Then when the broker said I can move all the movers said it was the busiest weekend and there are no movers.

I asked the property manager about the bedbugs and they said Do you have bedbugs? You don't like our building then move out in 24 hours or suffer the penalty. They said they were calling the police on me that I was an illegal tenant. They said that I was a squatter. When reminded that they had $3300 of my money and a lease they said that I did not have a signed copy of the lease. They wanted to change the lease and I would not sign a new lease because they had cigarette smoke in the apartment and there were cracks and a rusted medicine cabinet that had not been fixed as promised. What these landlords did is come to my apartment to hussle me and seeing that I was not hussable they went back and changed pages and sent me back a lease, not a lease I had signed for. I am a legal tenant.

Within 3 months I had whelps all over my body. Finally the property manager did something because someone powerful in the building complained. They made three appointments and did not keep them. They threatened me that they were going to drill a hole in my door and charge me because they couldn't get in. Keep in mind they never said that they don't know how to open their own lock or door could I show them. Nor did they ever say that they seem to have misplaced the keys to the door.

They came back at me again with a letter stating I was in breach of my lease because I had not given them entry to the apartment. I have to tell you I was in my apartment the entire time their statements claim they could not get entry. Noone yelled or knocked on the door. There were no notes left. A fact I shared with this property manager, the rental agents were coming into my apartment. One just walked right on in while I was there. I asked them what they were doing. They said they had the key. I gave no one a key. I did not do key or lock replacement here at all. When I saw the junk on the door I said no way. I am not doing $1000 worth of work on yet another sleazehole landlord's propery. So there were no keys forthcoming from me. I was given a set of keys and those are the only keys I use. Imagine being threatened with eviction three times within only six months of living in a place. Having done nothing wrong at all; having been the landlord and the city's victim.

These landlords claimed they put diatemaceous in the apartment and steamed it. However they did not. They put a flyer up stating they conquered the bed bugs and if we had bugs in our apartment let them know. I did. They wrote back that they did not appreciate me calling wolf and that I could move out without penalty. Did I ask them to move out? No I did not.

For nine months they let the toilet malfunction. Finally I came to the super right in front of my next door neighbor. I asked why are you fixing this apartment when I have called days ago stating that the apartment is 100 degrees and that it has been 9 months and noone has fixed the toilet or the refrigerator. I have lost over $100 from food being frozen in the refrigerator. I made a scene. They had to fix the toilet and then I bugged them about the refrigerator. These guys need more than a babysitter they need some one to continually take them by the ear.

Right now my apartment is 80.5 degrees with the radiator valve turned down. It has been that way all winter long. I have not had a winter. When I go outside my body is in shock and when I come back it is shock again.

Watch out before you move to New York City. I live on the Upper East side in a townhouse and I pay for a tiny room with one window $1100 a month. It is 15 minutes away from a subway. Ask yourself would you want to live in such a place with a musician playing drums, guitar, singing, recording music, band rehearsal, coaching and radio at all hours of the day, evening and early hours of the morning. Have charcoal burgers and cigarette smoke all in your things. Tree roaches and bed bugs? Would you want to go through all that knowing that the city is not going to help you. They will just take your taxes. If you dare to call them they'll take down your information and do nothing. Why? because you do not have a child under the age of six.
